Going bald is not fun
What a messy experience. For the past week, everytime I touched my hair, my hand came away fuzzy. By last night, I had large bald patches. Today, I decided enough was enough. I went to the salon and had them shave the rest of my hair off. I got a couple of wigs from the social worker at Grossmont, and I put one on after going bald. I'm wearing a scarf now, and am feeling really sad.
Everyone I've spoken to has been reassuring that it'll grow back. Yes it will -- in November! In the meantime, I lost all my hair and it's not a pretty picture. And as someone else said, better my hair than my life. I know this too, but as a woman, I feel ugly without hair.

I'm surprised at how fast you lost your hair! Hopefully, the treatment will eliminate your cancer just as fast. This has got to be a hard time for you, Nancy. You're in my prayers. Hang in there!
It is understandable that you feel ugly without your hair because it's your "glory" as the Bible says. Just getting a bad haircut can make you feel terrible, so I can only imagine how you feel losing your hair. Even if you knew it was coming, you were prepared that the treatments would do this, but you still didn't have to go through it yet. We'll be praying for you! I like the idea of wearing scarves, especially in the summertime. I wonder if a head massage would feel better with no hair? It's worth a try, go ask John. :big-smile:
I join Kimber and Connie in their thoughts and prayers for you. We hope that the time goes by swifly, and you will be adorned with your hair before you know it! Like Kimber, it might be an exciting time to "accessorize" with hats and scarves and such. I understand scarves are really 'in' now- so go to town with that!
it is a sign that the chemo is killing your fast growing cells, but I can see how the hair falling out is still a downer. God be with you and keep your eyes looking forward
@wardssward - The oncologist told me to expect to lose it by 3 weeks, but it's one thing to hear it, another to experience it. :sigh:
@Kumquat62 - I'll definitely ask John about the head massage. :wink-wink: He has been reassuring that I'm still attractive, but he's mourning my hair too.
@Little_red_hen - I'm wearing a scarf now, but it feels strange. John called it a gypsy look.
@curlycountertop - Thanks CCT! I'm trying to keep my eyes on Him, not the mirror.
Hi Nancy, I hope you're more and more comforted by the things other people have already said
(wardssward, kumquat, little red hen, curlycountertop)
it hopefully reminds you about your inner strength and the strength you have in your good family and friends who love and support you.
I'm so sorry you're going through this-and I wish I could hang out with you--maybe paint some cool design on your bare head.
getting your wigs from a place called "Grossmont" surely didn't help your mood...Gross mountain?!
maybe you should call the place "groovymont" to help a tiny bit with easing your sadness?
anyway, we're all glad you're keeping us up to date--
Stay strong, Nancy!
love,
Kyra
You are in my daily prayers Nancy ... as others have also said, the chemo is killing those cancer cells and unfortunately, your hair is temporarily affected. I'm sure you are still as beautiful as you always were ... hang in there!
Sorry about the loss of the hair and so fast. I suppose the fastness of it was the real eye opener and of course one hopes in the back of one mind it really won't happen. Well, we don't want to lose you, so am glad you are getting the treatments despite this heartache. From what I heard (and have seen with a few friends) sometimes when the hair comes back it is thicker and/or curlier. Take good care of yourself.
Aunt Nancy, Ian and I have been praying for you. I'm so sorry to hear you've lost your hair so fast, but don't let your self confidence go with it! Now is the perfect time to experiment with fun wigs of all different hair colors. I wish I could be there, so I could show you what I mean.
@SpringsTruth - It's like adding insult to injury. You're right, I was hoping I'd be the exception and not lose it.
h-no:
@alissa_from_iowa - I guess I'm not as adventurous as I used to be. I have a couple of wigs I got at the hospital. They're both brown hair. One is short, the other is fairly long. I tried on several other colors, but they didn't look right to me. The purple one, especially, seemed wrong. :ROTFL:
@brensue60 - Thanks for the support and prayers. It means more than you know.
Praying for you...
